Notes about Oslo

“Cities were always like people, showing their varying personalities to the traveler. Depending on the city and on the traveler, there might begin a mutual love, or dislike, friendship, or enmity. Where one city will rise a certain individual to glory, it will destroy another who is not suited to its personality. Only through travel can we know where we belong or not, where we are loved and where we are rejected.” ― Roman Payne
I am not clearly fearless. Definitely not that brave just-do-it risk taker. Oslo was a proof that I am somewhat a chicken.

My passion for travelling made me buy a very cheap flight ticket to an expensive Scandinavian city, initially planned as a solo backpacking trip. However, I promoted the ticket and invited others to join me too - because I was a chicken I later felt like not wanting to travel alone. And I invited people whom I hardly travel with. I had heard of the saying that the thrill of the travel also depends on the people who you travel with, I could feel the chicken-ness crept under my skin as the day drew closer and closer. London was hit with days of snow, ouh bummer, of course the Scandinavia would be flooded with cold white ice.

For me, the trip was expensive - financial wise and time wise. Holiday is not long and infrequent, and I would like to not waste anymore money (for future sake). I really want to make the most of what I have. I didn't want to waste time and money if I was not going to enjoy it. I chickened out.

But in the end, it turned to be better than I feared it would be. The country was awesome in weather and scenery it offered was breathtakingly priceless. It was filled with sun, making it warm (compared to London) despite the white snow blanketing certain areas of the city. We took the cruise on the Oslofjord, as a person who love anything with water, I fell in love in a microsecond. And my company, the quality time that I spent getting to know them was more valuable that the money I had to spend for the whole trip. I am glad that I took the this risk to learn them and regretted that it took years since we first met for me to open up. Introvert much?! And I am happy that they actually accept my quietness and my fondness to staying in room reading instead of talking in the living room. Prolly what chickened me in the first place was the thought of having to change myself to feel accepted as part of the group. It was an expensive experience. It was great. And what makes it greater, we managed to spend so little for the whole trip.!
