Drove me crazy

I have always been longing for a roadtrip. I couldn't recall the last time I had one. We (whoever still around in London) had been talking about it since before summer. I had the feelings that these guys need a little bit of push kalau tak, plan takkan jadi punya. Luckily, I have my sidekick to bring the mission to completion. We booked a rental car for two days and immediately everyone got into the mood.

Day 1: The driver needed a little practice and getting use to driving in this super strict country, so he and I took the car to the seaside. He got stressed with the speed limit and the traffic cameras every where on the motorway and I got stressed being the co-pilot. GPS was ugh. I wasn't familiar with the road and he was confused and trying to mind the road laws to avoid getting tickets. That drove me mad. Nevertheless it was a good day by the sea.

Day 2: Both pilot and co-pilot were more ready compared to yesterday. By 9 AM we were already hitting the road with packed lunch, samosas and of course, sunnies. There were 5 of us, the most ratchet people u'll ever meet LOL. Arrived at the heritage city of Bath after 2.5 hours, the city is famous for its Roman architecture and hot spring. We did the touristy things the hipster way - we went up a hill where there was nobody and enjoyed the most beautiful view. Instead of having picnic under the sun, we had picnic under the shade of trees (takmau hiram) and used restroom at a posh hotel instead of the public toilet (coz we tourist we not understand - selamba). We left the beautiful city before dusk, along the journey we shared legendary ghost stories of our different schools. That did keep the driver awake and made the journey felt shorter.

Notes on driving and renting cars in UK:
  1. everybody uses GPS in this country. I mean, EVERYBODY
  2. be fast, especially in the middle of London
  3. no toll
  4. camera is everywhere
  5. variable speed limit, beware of camera as fines can be super expensive
  6. parking is a pain. Expensive and limited to permit holders, or limited stay. Kalau tak, saman!
  7. though they drive super fast, they can be super super obedient to the rule. Obviously nobody wants the get tickets. And most Britons are very very courteous on the road.
  8. Beware of bus and cycle lanes. It's haram to drive on those lanes.
  9. don't forget to pee before to get on the road, R&R or services they call it here are very far apart
  10. renting car is more expensive for drivers under age 25
  11. most rental cars are manual cars, whilst auto cars can be triple the normal price. Maka sila belajar memandu.
PS: One regret -did not learn how to drive properly :(
